Education
Mr. Russell graduated from Princeton University (B.A. 1989) and the University Of North Carolina School Of Law (J.D. 1992). Prior to joining the firm, he had been in private practice and with the Gaston County Public Defender’s Office.

Mr. Russell is a shareholder at MHC and practices in the areas of workers compensation, land use and real estate litigation, housing, and commercial landlord – tenant disputes.
Professional Bio
Mr. Russell is a member of the Gaston County and North Carolina Bar Associations, and the North Carolina State Bar. He has been recognized in the Top Attorneys list of North Carolina Super Lawyers for the years 2010 to the present in the field of workers compensation and has been a presenter and speaker on issues of workers’ compensation and landlord tenant law before attorney and industry groups.
Personal Bio
Since moving to Gaston County in the early 1990s, Mr. Russell has been active in the community in multiple ways, serving as Chairman of the Gaston County Historic Preservation Commission and on the boards of Preservation Gaston, Inc. and Gaston Residential Services. He is currently a member of the Pastoral Council at Queen of Apostles Church in Belmont. Mr. Russell is a former Board member of the Schiele Museum of Natural History and has volunteered as a coach in various junior golf and soccer programs. Outside of work, he enjoys the outdoors, particularly skiing, hiking, and canoeing or paddle boarding with his family. John is married to Erin Russell, an attorney with Clariant Chemical Corporation in Charlotte and Mount Holly. The Russells live in Belmont with their three children.
